Trainee Technician - 2022

About Us

Corrosion Engineering Solutions [CES] is an engineering consultancy working across the renewable energy, maritime and civil engineering sectors, in the diagnosis and treatment of corrosion related defects.

We are a growing business specialising in cathodic protection and its application in steel-framed historic buildings, reinforced concrete and marine structures.

About the Role

We are recruiting a new trainee to become a fully qualified CP and Forensic Engineering Technician. No previous experience of construction is required or expected. Applicants with relevant experience and training will also be considered and provided with specific training where needed.

In the role you will investigate material defects, develop repair systems, and monitor and maintain systems designed to prevent degradation. You will be part of the CES team learning fundamental engineering principles by Chartered Civil and Corrosion Engineers through interesting construction and engineering projects, both large and small across the UK and sometimes beyond. In recent years we have had projects at:

  • Kew Gardens
  • The HMS Belfast
  • Manchester Town Hall

In the role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist in on-site investigation works using specialist test equipment and techniques.
  • Collect, organise, and present data for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Learn how to prepare technical drawings for construction and reporting
  • Learn and apply skills for servicing and testing of cathodic protection systems
  • Provide essential information for the design of remedial work and strategies.
  • Who we are looking for

    A dynamic individual with good practical, analytical and organisational skills, who is:

    • Willing to travel [mainly in the UK]
    • Interested in learning about structures [including historic buildings], engineering, science and technology.
    • Qualified to A Level [ideally in at least one of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or Design and Technology. Humanity subjects will also be viewed positively].
    • Skilled in the use of Microsoft or google apps
    • Physically capable to undertake work requiring moderate strength and agility within a construction or industrial setting, e.g. able to climb scaffolding carrying small tools and able to carry moderate amounts of equipment and tools on public transport.

    Someone who may have:

    • Previous experience in the use of AutoCAD or similar computer aided design packages
    • A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle or within a commutable distance to our offices in Tring, Herts.

    What We Can Offer You

    • Industry recognised courses and qualifications including training to BS EN ISO 15257 in Cathodic Protection [training dependant on availability]
    • Computer Aided Design [CAD] training and work-based learning.
    • A mix of office and site-based activities, primarily 8:30-5pm Monday to Friday.
    • A starting salary of £16,500 to £19,500.
    • Completion of cathodic protection certification [ICorr] will result in an increase to your salary by £1,000 per qualification.
